We unbox and review TP Link’s TAPO C200, a smart Wi-Fi camera that can take home, property, and shop security to the next level, all at a pocket-friendly price.
TP‑Link Tapo C200 — Overview & Key Details
There’s the TP-Link branding, model name, and a 1080p full HD display. You’ll find support for Alexa and Google Home. The back shows off motion detection, tracking, and many other features found in the camera. There’s also detailed information, including a 2-year warranty.
However, it’s lightweight, compact, and comes with a matte white finish. It definitely feels premium. A stand is included. There are a few instructions around. There’s a power input port. The speaker grille and TP-Link branding are on the back. Next, the bezel looks like this, and the bottom one rotates 360°
- Here, you’ll find the LED notification light, microphone, etc. right next to the camera. Setting up the front is pretty easy. Just turn the camera on, and the lights will start flashing.
You need to install the green TAPO app on your smartphone. QR codes are provided. You can scan them or download them directly from the Play Store. Open it for the first time and then log in.
Within the app, go to Camera Devices, select the camera model and the camera will appear. With a single tap, the payment will be made and by following the steps you can connect it via your Wi-Fi network. You can then access your camera remotely from anywhere via the app.
You can see what’s happening without the need for a memory card. The camera currently includes one month of cloud storage, which you can claim when you activate it. However, you will have to pay a small fee for cloud storage later. We recommend using a memory card of up to 512GB.
You can use it by inserting a physical card. You can now check any recording directly on your phone. You can also download it. The memory card will store recordings from the last few days, two, three, five, six days, depending on your storage.
- You can use it from anywhere in the house. You can mount it on the wall.
Also, motion detection, person detection, and motion tracking are available here, which you can set to on or off inside the Tapo app. If you have a baby crying in your house, you can also turn on their alert.
- If you want a dedicated notification alert, if a person is detected, especially where no one comes or goes, you can immediately get an alert on your phone with a proper notification.
The rest of the field of view is 360° horizontal, which allows you to rotate the camera completely and there is also a pan from top to bottom, which is quite impressive. There is also a built-in microphone and speaker inside the camera, which allows you to speak. If a delivery person comes and needs to tell them their OTP or something else, your voice will be transmitted to them. Their voice will be transmitted to you, which works quite well, almost in real-time.
There is also a dedicated night mode, which you can set to auto. When the light goes out, it automatically switches to night mode. When there is proper lighting, it stays in day mode. The quality of the night mode is also quite good, with details clearly visible.
